Being able to use up-to-date technology features is one of the best perks of purchasing a new car, let alone a new Toyota model. For some 2018 models and the majority of the 2019 lineup, Toyota has introduced an updated version of Entune: Entune 3.0. The new infotainment system includes some new and refreshed elements, such as Apple CarPlay, navigation options, and more. Much like the Entune system, Entune 3.0 offers an App Suite, allowing drivers to control certain phone apps from the central display screen in their vehicle. But does the App Suite use your phone data? That’s what we’re here to find out.

In short, yes, the Entune 3.0 App Suite will use data from your phone to run the apps—just as if you were using the apps right on your phone. That said, you have a different option—Wi-Fi Connect.
One of the most notable updates for the Entune 3.0 system is the availability of Wi-Fi Connect powered by Verizon. This feature can connect with up to five devices, allowing passengers to utilize 4G LTE Wi-Fi on the go. If Wi-Fi Connect is activated, then you can connect your device to the hotspot and be able to use the Entune 3.0 App Suite without using phone data.
New Toyota models equipped with Entune 3.0 come with a 6-month or 2-GB trial period (whichever comes first). After that, vehicle owners can get a Verizon Wireless data subscription to continue having a Wi-Fi hotspot in their vehicle.
