Part of the reason crossovers have become increasingly popular recently can be attributed to the availability of all-wheel drive. Many drivers desire the added confidence that AWD offers in less-than-ideal driving conditions. So, what about sedans? Why don’t more sedans offer all-wheel drive? With the all-new Avalon being introduced for the 2019 model-year, some of us had a tinge of excitement when we considered the possibility of available AWD.
Alas, no, the 2019 Toyota Avalon does not offer all-wheel drive. All Avalon models are equipped with front-wheel drive.
The 2019 Avalon comes with either a 3.5-liter V6 engine or a Hybrid powertrain, which combines a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine with an electric motor and sealed Nickel-Metal Hydride battery. See the performance and efficiency specs as well as the transmission type for each of these powertrains below.

One can hope the Toyota Avalon, along with the Camry, will eventually be available with all-wheel drive. Based on past statements by Toyota engineers, the model platforms would need to be adjusted quite a bit in order to make an AWD option feasible.
Stay tuned for additional details about all-wheel drive availability for the Toyota Avalon. In the meantime, there’s a lot to be excited about on the 2019 Toyota Avalon, which is now available here at Toyota Vacaville! Check out our new Avalon inventory and schedule a test drive at your convenience.
