Sedans getting all-wheel drive isn’t a new development, but for many years, this feature was reserved for luxury models. With the 2021 Toyota Camry that is no longer the case. Does the 2021 Toyota Camry offer all-wheel drive? Yes, it does! And we can tell you all about its benefits, what trim levels and engines it’s available with, and more!
All trim levels for the 2021 Camry come with front-wheel drive standard but most of the lineup also offers AWD as an option. Basically, all 4-cylinder models offer AWD and that includes the LE, SE, SE Nightshade Edition, XLE, and the XSE. The only trim levels that are excluded are the TRD, XLE V6, and the XSE V6. It’s worth noting that the 2021 Camry Hybrid options are not offered with AWD either.
What’s the power of the 2021 Camry?
All-wheel drive is perfect for driving in inclement weather. When the Camry detects slippage in the front wheels, it immediately transfers up to 50% of the engine’s torque to the rear wheels and it does it lightning fast.
This makes for better handling in rain, sleet, ice, snow, and more. Though AWD doesn’t make you invincible while you’re driving, it does help especially when accelerating. It will also help prevent understeer which is when the front wheels slip in a turn making it feel like the steering wheel isn’t responding. What’s actually happening is that your front tires just don’t have the grip they need to both turn and apply torque to the road.
