Differences between the 2017 Toyota 86 and 2016 Scion FR-S
Along with a new name, the Toyota 86 also comes with a number of notable updates.
Exterior
The exterior has more aggressive style elements and a new front end design as well as LED front headlamps, LED turn signals, and LED taillamps. The Toyota 86 runs on twisted spoke alloy wheels, while the Scion FR-S is equipped with 17-inch alloy wheels. The Toyota 86 also has 86 logo badges on the front fender and inside the front headlamps.
Interior
On the inside of the 2017 Toyota 86, riders can expect new seating material with eye-catching silver stitching and a sporty steering wheel with integrated audio controls and the 86 logo on the center hub. It also comes with new Grandlux material surrounding the instrument panel and on the door trim.
Mechanics
In terms of performance, the new Toyota 86 comes with revised shock tuning and spring rate change as well as an increase in horsepower and torque when paired with manual transmission.

Why the name change?
Toyota hadn’t originally planned to change the name of the FR-S, but, due to popular demand, the automaker decided to adopt to the global “86” name. It’s a well-known name for sports car enthusiasts, who remember back to the original 86 model, or “hachi-roku,” and the impressive performance it has to offer.
