Trim levels and features of the 2021 4Runner

The lineup of options available on the 4Runner is pretty extensive. In all, there are nine trim levels. The lineup gets a little confusing with special editions and a myriad of TRD trim levels, but in terms of MSRP, the lineup begins with the SR5 and goes up from there with the Trail Special Edition, SR5 Premium, TRD Off-Road, TRD Off-Road Premium, Venture Special Edition, Limited, Nightshade Special Edition, and the top TRD Pro.

If you wanted three rows with your 4Runner, you want to get either the SR5, SR5 Premium, Limited, or the Nightshade Special Edition. Four-wheel drive is available on all trims but actually comes standard as the only option on all TRD trim levels as well as the Venture Special Edition.

Under the hood, all the 4Runner trim levels get the same engine and it’s an impressive 4.0-liter V6 powerplant that can output up to 270 horsepower and 278 pound-feet of torque. The engine is mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission.

In terms of capability, the 2021 4Runner can tow up to 5,000 pounds standard. That’s thanks to the body-on-frame construction. Every trim also comes standard with an integrated towing receiver that supports 4- and 7-pin wiring harnesses.

All trims also come standard with Toyota Safety Sense which includes pre-collision detection with pedestrian detection. Lane departure alert, automatic high beams, dynamic radar cruise control, and more. The 4Runner also comes standard with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
