Last month, Toyota announced plans to reunite with Scion and incorporate its models into the Toyota lineup. Many of you may be wondering what sparked this change and how the brand will be affected as Scion makes the transition to Toyota. Here’s what we know so far.
Why is Scion reuniting with Toyota?
Back in 2003, Scion was established as a separate brand designed to appeal to young customers and first-time car buyers by utilizing unique, innovative products and processes. Scion has stayed consistent as the youngest automaker with an average buyer age of 36 years old. Also, 70% of people who buy the Scion iA and iM are first-time new car purchasers and 50% are under the age of 35. Needless to say, Scion achieved exactly what Toyota had hoped. And now, it’s time to move on.
What will happen to the Scion models?
As the transition begins in August 2016, the majority of current Scion models will be rebadged as a part of the Toyota lineup. This includes the FR-S sports car, iA sedan, iM hatchback, and the C-HR, which was recently revealed at the Los Angeles Auto Show. As for the tC sports coupe, Scion will release the final edition in August 2016 and end production there.
